Delhi Capitals spent 4 crore INR on Harry Brook at the IPL 2024 mini-auction.

Just a week before the beginning of the IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals have suffered a major setback in their camp. The franchise’s star purchase of the IPL 2024, Harry Brook, has pulled out of IPL 2024 citing personal reasons. The upcoming season of the Indian Premier League will start from 22nd March with a high-octane encounter.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will be taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in tournament’s curtain raiser on 22nd March at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Delhi Capitals will be playing their opening game against Punjab Kings at the latter’s newly build venue Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mohali on 23rd March.

Harry Brook opts out!

Harry Brook’s absence has alerted the Delhi Capitals management to discuss the possible replacement of the English middle order batter. Harry Brook also skipped the five match test series for England against India citing personal reasons. English players are opting out of the IPL tournament possibly due to the T20 World Cup slated just a week after the big league.

As per Cricbuzz, a franchise official has raised the concern of players opting out after being purchased to play in the prestigious tournament. The Official was quoted as saying, “Once players register for the auction, they should honour their commitment. Reneging on it is unprofessional, and the BCCI should address this.” Harry Brook is not the first player to skip the season despite being picked for a huge price.

Harry Brook had a poor IPL 2023 for Sunrisers Hyderabad and apart from one century against Kolkata Knight Riders, he failed to score big in the tournament. Delhi Capitals spent 4 crore INR on Harry Brook during IPL 2024 mini auction which was held in Dubai. Delhi Capitals had a poor IPL season in 2023 and finished ninth in the points table.
