The Duleep Trophy 2026 has entered its decisive phase, with the six-zone competition now moving into the semi-finals.

East Zone defeated the Northeast Zone in the quarter-final and are taking on defending champions Central Zone in the semi-final at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. North Zone and South Zone clash in the other semi-final.

Central Zone advanced directly to the semi-finals as they were the winners of the previous edition of the Duleep Trophy. East Zone won the previous match by an innings and 210 runs, setting up an intriguing contest against the defending champions.

East Zone bowlers did a convincing job, as Central Zone were bowled out for 266 in the first innings on Day 1. Rinku Singh remained the top scorer for Central Zone, while East Zone bowlers kept control. East Zone came out to bat on Day 2, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opening the innings.

Harsh Dubey made a useful contribution for Central Zone with the bat, scoring 27 runs from 38 deliveries. He hit four boundaries and a six in his innings, while adding 55 runs for the sixth wicket alongside Rinku Singh.

Although it was not a massive individual score, it provided stability to Central Zone’s lower-middle order after the top order collapsed during the first innings.

Dubey’s bigger reputation came with the ball

The Indian left-arm spinner’s greater value to Central Zone, however, lies in his bowling. He is an established domestic first-class performer for Vidarbha, having entered the Duleep Trophy with an impressive record of 136 wickets from 28 first-class matches.

In the semi-final, Dubey produced a key breakthrough for his team after the East Zone openers put on a massive opening partnership of 161 runs. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi amassed 92 runs with a whopping strike rate, but Dubey dismissed him just short of a magnificent hundred.

His dismissal represented an important moment for Central Zone, as the spinner picked up 4 wickets in the innings. Having bowled 15 overs in the innings, Dubey was the leading wicket-taker for Central Zone with 4 wickets.

Dubey has been a very consistent performer across domestic formats. He has been a standout performer in List A, T20s, and first-class cricket.

Dubey made his ODI debut for India against Afghanistan in 2026 and picked up 4 wickets in 2 games. Given his impressive performances in domestic matches, Indian selectors might consider giving him a few more opportunities.
