MS Dhoni had received a brilliant reception in Dharamsala when he entered the field.
MS Dhoni’s stay at the crease in Dharamsala was a short lived one as he was dismissed for a golden duck in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This match is being played at the HPCA Stadium on May 5, 2024.
PBKS captain Sam Curran won the toss and chose to bowl first. PBKS played with the same team, while CSK brought in Mitchell Santner in for Mustafizur Rahman, who has gone back for international duty.
It was not a good start for CSK, as Ajinkya Rahane fell for 9 runs. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (32) and Daryl Mitchell (30) then added 57 runs for the third wicket. But Ruturaj fell on score of 69 to Rahul Chahar, who also removed dangerous Shivam Dube on the next ball.
Ravindra Jadeja (47), Moeen Ali, and Shardul Thakur with 17 each, tried to push Chennai Super Kings towards a good total, but PBKS bowlers had some other idea.

Many had expected MS Dhoni to come up the order as CSK were reeling at 101/5 in the 13th over. But the former CSK captain remained at his preferred batting position and kept himself for the death overs. He finally came to the crease in the 19th over after the fall of Shardul Thakur’s wicket.
Shardul had fallen to a brilliant slow ball yorker by Harshal Patel and as MS Dhoni entered the field in Dharamsala, the crowd at the venue went berserk with cheers for their loving ‘Thala’. Dhoni was expected to show his big-hitting magic once again, but Harshal Patel had something up in his sleeve.
Patel repeated the slower yorker to the seasoned MS Dhoni and as the batter tried to play it to the leg side, he was too early in his shot and missed the ball. The ball crashed into the stumps and handed MS Dhoni a golden duck.
