Harshit Rana gave away 54 runs and got just one wicket against Sri Lanka.

Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin lashed out at young pacer Harshit Rana for his poor performance against Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash of Asia Cup 2025. He said that the mistakes made by the fast bowler were amateurish and he needs to learn a lot.

Harshit Rana, who replaced Shivam Dube, in the Indian XI for the game against Sri Lanka had a forgettable outing with the ball in the game. After India posted a total of 202 runs on the board, it was expected that the bowlers would come up with a similar kind of show as that of the batters.

However, that wasn’t the case as Indian bowlers had a poor time. Harshit Rana, in particular looked off colours as in his first three overs, he had no answers to the carnage by the Sri Lanka batters. He was taken for a lot of runs and his spell brought India under a lot of pressure.

However, he made a slight comeback in the last over when Sri Lanka needed 12 runs. The pacer removed Pathum Nissanka for 107 and gave away 11 runs as the match went into a super over. In his four overs, he gave away 54 runs and got just one wicket.

Mistakes made by Harshit against Sri Lanka were really amateurish – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin while talking about Harshit Rana admitted that playing one game and then sitting out isn’t easy for any bowler. But he was quick to point out that the pacer made amateurish mistakes. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:

I just want to speak about Harshit Rana. He has played a few games. He hasn’t played a few games. It is not easy to play one match and then sit out. It could really be flattening for your confidence, and also be a bit rusty. But the mistakes made by Harshit against Sri Lanka were really amateurish.”

Ashwin further pointed out how Harshit Rana was bowling slower balls after delivering a fast-paced delivery. He noted that this was the amateurish way of playing cricket and he needs to learn. He added:

“I thought the game was done in the power play, but India made a stellar comeback after that. Harshit Rana was cranking up the speed. He hit him on the head, and then he followed it up with a slower ball.

“Nissanka played it beautifully. Harshit Rana was just bowling slower balls after delivering a fast-paced delivery. One fast, one show and one fast and one slow. That is a really amateurish way of playing cricket. He should really learn from this.”

In the Super Over, Arshdeep Singh came up with the staggering effort. He gave away just two runs and picked up two wickets as India won the game easily.
