[Watch] Harshit Rana defends 13 runs in last over against SRH in match 3 of IPL 2024

Harshit Rana ended up with match figures of 3/33 against SRH.

At Eden Gardens, the third match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) between the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) became a nail-biter. Andre Russell’s heroics – 64 runs off only 25 balls – helped KKR set a lofty target of 209 runs.

In addition to Rinku Singh’s 23 runs off 15 balls, Phil Salt scored 54 runs off 40 balls. It seemed as if SRH were slipping out of control throughout the run chase. But they were once again in the hunt, as Heinrich Klaasen scored a stunning 63 off 29 balls and Shahbaz Ahmed scored 16 off 5 balls. 

Still, KKR’s hero was Harshit Rana, who kept his cool in the last over to seal a thrilling 4-run triumph. The highly anticipated debut of Starc for KKR, who was bought for an unprecedented Rs 24.75 crores at the IPL 2024 auction, establishing him as the most expensive player in IPL history, further added to the excitement.

Despite all the anticipation, he failed to live up to the billing, allowing 53 runs in his four overs while taking no wickets. His 19th over, in which he gave up 26 runs and made the game even more exciting, was the most disheartening.

Harshit Rana was the hero for KKR in the final over

In the end, Harshit Rana was the one who saved KKR in a thrilling match. The match seemed to be slipping from KKR’s grip as SRH needed 13 runs off the last over and Klaasen was performing at his best. As the first ball soared over the fence for six in the first ball of the final over, the game was nearly done for KKR.

But Harshit Rana was unflappable. After he strengthened his grip, he let just two runs off the following five balls. Not only did he limit runs, but he also grabbed the wickets of Shahbaz Ahmed and Klaasen in an exciting conclusion. KKR’s fortunes shifted thanks to Rana’s calm mind under pressure and game-changing performance, which ensured the team’s historic triumph.
