Why Harshit Rana was fined after KKR vs SRH clash in IPL 2024?
Harshit Rana defended 13 runs in the last over to help KKR beat SRH by 4 runs.
Harshit Rana of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may have emerged as a hero with his magnificent final over in Saturday’s four-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024, but his celebration after dismissing Mayank Agarwal has put him in hot water.
Rana lost his temper after dismissing the SRH opener earlier in the innings, blowing a flying kiss at Mayank as he headed back into the dressing room.
Many people on social media were unhappy with the send-off, and the BCCI took note of the incident on Sunday, slapping the pacer with a 60% fine. In a post-game statement, the board stated that Harshit Rana had been punished for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
“Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harshit Rana has been fined a total of 60 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23.
Rana committed two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He was fined 10 percent and 50 percent of his match fees for the two respective offences. Rana admitted to the two offences and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” an IPL statement read.
While Rana’s celebration prompted criticism from fans, Mayank remained calm as he glared at Rana before eventually walking away, stopping the issue from deteriorating further.
Harshit Rana stars for KKR, defending 13 runs from 6 balls in the last over against SRH
SRH came into the final two overs of the match chasing 207 runs to win. They needed 39 runs off the last 12 balls. KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer trusted Mitchell Starc, their INR 24.75 crores buy to bowl the important 19th over.
But Heinrich Klaasen and Shahbaz Ahmed took him to the cleaners with 4 sixes in the over and a total of 26 runs. This meant that SRH needed only 13 runs in the last 6 balls and Harshit Rana was given the task to defend those runs.
Rana was hit for a six first ball by Klaasen, but the pacer kept his cool and dismissed both Ahmed and Klaasen to clinch the match for his team as SRH finished on 204/7 and lost by 4 runs.
