Has any pair of brothers captained against each other in the IPL?
The Pandya brothers go up against each other as captains for the first time in IPL
IPL over the years have seen many brothers playing for the same franchise or for different ones. IPL 2023 witnessed one such unique moment when Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya went up against each other as the captains of their respective teams - the first pair of brothers to do so in the history of IPL. In game no. 51 between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023, when Hardik and Krunal came for the toss, the duo became the first-ever in the league's history to stand against each other as the captains of two different teams.
In the rich history of IPL, many pairs of brothers have been seen playing against each other. The Pathan brothers, Marsh brothers, Morkel brothers, Hussey brothers, Curran brothers, etc. Over the years, the rivalry between these brothers in IPL is something the fans look forward to. In the current list of brothers playing in the IPL, the Pandya brothers and the Jansen brothers are the only pairs playing in the current edition of the IPL.
Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya are leading Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants respectively. From the Jansen family, Marco Jansen represents Sunrisers Hyderabad while his twin brother, Duan Jansen plays for Mumbai Indians.
Can Krunal Pandya deliver as a captain for LSG?
LSG's all-rounder and now captain, Krunal Pandya has been a regular commodity in the IPL. Having started his IPL career with Mumbai Indians alongside his brother, Hardik Pandya, the two brothers diverged and joined two new teams in 2022. Hardik joined the Titans' forces while Krunal made his pact with LSG.
Krunal Pandya has regularly played for LSG since IPL 2022 and has put up decent performances for the franchise. In IPL 2023, the all-rounder has been among the wickets as well and has also contributed with the bat in crucial times for his team. In the absence of KL Rahul, LSG bestowed the captaincy responsibilities on Krunal and it will be a huge test for him whether he can deliver as a captain or not. With no prior experience leading a franchise in IPL, a stern test awaits Krunal in the remainder of IPL 2023.
