Fact check: Has PCB fined 9 Pakistan players over discipline issues?

Pakistan cricket has once again been surrounded by reports concerning player discipline, and a claim has circulated that the PCB is taking a major step against these nine players following the disciplinary breaches. The reported development has once again attracted considerable attention because it involves a large number of players and a large set of financial penalties associated with these players. 

According to a viral claim, nine Pakistani cricketers were fined $800 each, while one player was supposedly handed a fine exceeding $800. The claims alleged that the reason behind the penalties was visits to bars and pubs during the West Indies series. The reports further claimed that star wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan escaped any penalty. 

PCB fined 9 players? Here’s what the evidence says

After a review of all available official and credible reports, the provided viral claim cannot be confirmed. The PCB issued disciplinary regulations against a Pakistani player, but none of them is associated with financial penalties involving nine players or visiting a bar or club during the West Indies series. 

Back in March, the PCB had announced a massive penalty of PKR 20 million against Naseem Shah for the breach of the central contract and social media guidelines. The PCB had also fined Pakistani players a huge amount after the team failed to qualify for the semi-finals in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. 

The viral claim built around the West Indies series cannot be confirmed as a fact, as none of the reports has been officially confirmed by the PCB. During the West Indies series, two players, Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad, were fined based on disciplinary cases by the ICC, but they were for field-related misconduct. 

There is also a recent controversy involving a set of Pakistani players who were called back from England midway through the series. Hence, any claim regarding the PCB charging their nine players with heavy penalties remains unconfirmed, with the reports lacking substantial evidence.
