Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid were the only Indian players in Hashim Amla’s all-time best test XI.
Hashim Amla, former legendary opener of South Africa Cricket Team, has revealed his all-time best test XI. Surprisingly, he has not named Indian batting legend Virat Kohli as he picked just two Indians in his team.
Kohli, who announced his retirement from test cricket earlier in May, played 123 tests for Indian Cricket Team during his 14-year-long career from 2011 to 2025. At an average of 46.85, he amassed 9230 runs in 210 innings, smacking 31 fifties and 30 centuries.
The former Indian captain retired as the fourth-highest all-time run-scorer for India. However, Amla does not feel that Kohli is among the all-time greatest in test cricket. Interestingly, Amla also ignored the other members of the Fab Four- Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson in his team.
Hashim Amla picks Matthew Hayden and Graeme Smith as openers in his team

For the openers, Amla went ahead with former Australia batter Matthew Hayden and former South Africa captain Graeme Smith. At three, he picked former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid, who will be followed by Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Sachin Tendulkar in the middle-order.
While Ponting (13378) is the third-highest run-getter in test cricket, Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer with 15921 runs and is also the most capped test player. Kallis is often regarded as among the greatest all-rounders to ever play the game.
He backed AB de Villiers to keep the wickets, while legendary spinners Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne, who are the all-time highest wicket-takers in the longest format, also found place in Amla’s XI. Former Aussie seamer Glenn McGrath and Proteas pacer Dale Steyn were two pacers in his team.
