The top 2 teams will qualify for the Super 8.
The high-stakes clash between India and Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 was decisive for qualification to the Super 8 stage. Ahead of their Group A encounter at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, both teams remain unbeaten after two matches each, locked on four points.
India lead the standings with a superb Net Run Rate (NRR) of +3.050, thanks to a string of impressive wins: a 29-run win over the USA, a thumping 93-run win over Namibia, and a dominating 61-run victory over Pakistan.
Pakistan sit second with an NRR of +0.932, having secured a three-wicket edge over the Netherlands and a 32-run win against the USA.
Group A features five teams: India, Pakistan, USA (four points from four matches), Netherlands (two points from three), and Namibia (already eliminated). The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8, the second round-robin phase before the semifinals.
Have India qualified for the Super 8 after beating Pakistan?

After defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in their high-stakes third match, India have secured their place in the Super 8 with six points from three games.

India’s superior net run rate should help them finish at the top of the group. Meanwhile, Pakistan will play a must-win encounter against Namibia, with the USA expected to edge ahead of them on net run rate.
Pakistan succumbed to India’s bowling attack
Men in Blue won the match in a dominating way, as Pakistani batters struggled in their run chase. On the back of a sensational knock by Ishan Kishan, India finished with 175/7 on a sluggish and slow-paced track in Colombo.
In reply, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah ended the match in the powerplay itself, picking three wickets amongst each other. Axar Patel later cleaned up Babar Azam, effectively ending the run chase in the power play itself. Pakistan were all out for 114 and failed to play out the full 20 overs.
Will India qualify for the Super 8 if they beat Pakistan?
Yes. A win will take Men in Blue to six points, which no other team in Group A can match.
