Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be taking on Punjab Kings in the final of IPL 2025.
After the 73 games in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, we finally have our finalists. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be taking on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the summit clash at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (3rd June).
Both RCB and PBKS were two of the top teams in the league stage of the IPL 2025. The two sides finished at one and two respectively in the points table with 19 points each, winning nine games each. But the NNR separated them, and hence the Shreyas Iyer-led team finished at the top.
RCB and PBKS faced in Qualifier 1 as well. But it was all about the Rajat Patidar-led side as they blew away the opposition. They bundled out the PBKS for just 101 runs and chased the target with eight wickets to directly book a place in the final of the IPL 2025.
PBKS, however, rejuvenated themselves and came up with the dominating effort in the Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians (MI). The match took place at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (1st June) and saw the Shreyas Iyer-led team book a berth in the final.
The hero for PBKS was skipper Shreyas Iyer as he played a blinder of an innings and took his team home. In the chase of 204 runs, the captain led from the front and played an innings of 87 runs off 41 balls that powered PBKS to the five-wicket win and with one over to spare.
Have Punjab Kings (PBKS) or Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the IPL before?
This will be first time in long that both the teams have made it into the final of the IPL. While PBKS last played the summit clash in 2014, RCB’s last appearance came in 2016. However, both the teams had a same fate as they went on to lose their respective finals.
Interestingly, both RCB and PBKS are yet to win the IPL title. This time around we will see the new champions. It remains to be seen which franchise will end its title drought when they clash with each other on Tuesday.
