As per reports, Rohit Sharma will play his last ODI match at The Lord’s, London.

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has failed to come up with impressive performances in the ongoing three-match ODI series against England. The Indian opener got out for just 11 runs off 21 deliveries in the opening game at Edgbaston on July 14, followed by a disappointing 26 runs off 47 deliveries in the second game in Cardiff on July 16.

Rohit, who announced his retirement from T20Is in 2024 and Tests in 2025, is only active in the 50-over format. The veteran Indian batter has expressed his desire to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe next year. However, he has failed to impress with his performances since the start of this year.

As a result, some reports have claimed that the 3rd ODI between England and India could be Rohit’s last game in the 50-over format. According to the reports in Indian Express, Indian selectors do not want to continue with Rohit in the ODI format and want to move on with him.

They wish to groom youngsters, keeping the future of Indian cricket in mind. Also, selectors are not interested in giving Rohit a chance for the ICC ODI World Cup next year. While there is no confirmation that Sharma would play his last game at The Lord’s, reports of his parents arriving in London to watch him play have increased speculation about his retirement.

According to a report by CREX, Rohit’s father Gurunath Sharma and mother Purnima Sharma have arrived in London to watch him play at The Lord’s on July 19.

The report also added that BCCI selectors had informed Rohit that they would move on with him after the ODI series against England. Selectors wanted to part ways with him after the Afghanistan ODI series itself in June, but his half-century in the final game forced them to push the call further.

While the news of his ODI retirement will be revealed after the match, reports have suggested that his parents have reached London to witness the Mumbai Indians stalwart play for one last time in the Indian jersey on Sunday.
