Mohammad Azharuddin was the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association in 2019.

In a surprise development, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has been ordered to remove Mohammad Azharuddin’s name from the North Pavilion stand of the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

The action comes after Azharuddin renamed the stand in his name. It was earlier named as VVS Laxman Pavilion. Lord’s Cricket Club filed the petition. They argued that Azharuddin did not follow proper procedures in renaming the pavilion and took the decision on his own for his benefit.

Hence, Ethics Officer and Ombudsman of the HCA, Justice V Eswaraiah, passed the decision in the Lords Cricket Club’s favour.

No tickets will be printed in the name of Mohammad Azharuddin’s stand

Hence, HCA will now remove Azharuddin’s name from the North Pavilion Stand at the Uppal Stadium. Also, no match tickets will be printed in Azhadruddin’s name. The stand will again be called the VVS Laxman Pavilion. Notably, Azahruddin is also a former President of the HCA. VVS Laxman is considered one of the best Test batsmen to ever play for India.

Azharuddin is also a former Indian captain, he represented the Indian Cricket Team from 1984 to 2000. During his career, he played 99 Tests and 334 ODIs for the national team. He scored 15,000 runs in international cricket and also slammed 29 centuries.

Meanwhile, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is the home venue for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

The Pat Cummins & Co. have won just two games out of seven and lost five. They have four points and take the ninth spot in the points table. The stadium will witness SRH’s next game against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday, April 23.
