My heart wants CSK to win IPL 2023 for MS Dhoni: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar also previewed the IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.

Legendary India opener Sunil Gavaskar previewed the upcoming IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and said that while the Hardik Pandya-led side were formidable, he wanted CSK to win the summit clash for MS Dhoni.

The 41-year-old CSK skipper, MS Dhoni has played the IPL 2023 basically on one leg as he has an injured left knee but still has managed to lead the Chennai side with his usual charm and tactical mind. And many have been speculating that this IPL 2023 might be the last time the great man is playing in the tournament.

The IPL 2023 commenced with a contest between the Gujarat Titans and CSK at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 31st March. Interestingly, the league's season will conclude with a clash between the same two teams and both would be trying their best to get their hands on the trophy.

CSK defeated Hardik's squad in Qualifier 1 three days back in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, will have the support of their home supporters this time around, having previously crushed the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 on Friday, setting up a rematch against the Chennai Super Kings.

Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar desires the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to capture the trophy, particularly because he adores MS Dhoni. Gavaskar readily acknowledged that CSK has a special place in his soul as his second favorite IPL team, after his home side, the Mumbai Indians.

He shared his hope for Chennai to claim the trophy, stating that witnessing Dhoni triumph another time would be absolutely spectacular.

"Chennai Super Kings have always been my second favorite team apart from the Mumbai Indians. My heart wants CSK to win because the fact that MS Dhoni is able to win it one more time would be fantastic. Proving once again that calm, cool decision-making can make a difference. Having said that, Gujarat Titans have been the best team. They have got a terrific opener in Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya," Sunil Gavaskar told on Sports Today.

For the time being, it is unclear whether Dhoni will win his fifth title as captain, equaling Rohit Sharma's record, or if Hardik will become the third captain to win the trophy in succession. Both clubs' players are in excellent form at the moment, making this a highly competitive match.
