Kamindu Mendis has taken the cricket world by storm with an incredible start to his test career. The left-hander made his test debut in 2022 but didn’t play another test match until March 2024.

Since returning to the side, he has been on a record-breaking spree. The 25-year-old has registered his name in the record books with some blockbuster knocks in 2024.

The southpaw registered five test centuries in just 13 innings and became the fastest Asian to score 1000 runs in test cricket. He is also the first batsman in test cricket’s history to hit a fifty-plus score in each of his first eight tests.

5. 102 vs Bangladesh, Sylhet, 2024

Kamindu Mendis registered his maiden century in his second innings in test cricket. Against Bangladesh in Sylhet, he scored 102 off 127 balls, with 11 fours and three sixes in Sri Lanka’s first innings.

He came in to bat with his team struggling at 57/5 and added 202 runs with captain Dhananjaya de Silva. Sri Lanka won the match by a 328 runs. Mendis also scored a century in the second innings.

4. 113 vs England, Manchester, 2024

Scoring a century in England is always a tough and memorable achievement for an Asian batter, and Kamindu Mendis did it in his first test in England.

In Manchester in August 2024, he notched up his third test century. It came in challenging conditions in which other Sri Lankan batters struggled. He made 113 runs in Sri Lanka’s second innings, but England won the game by 5 wickets eventually.

3. 114 vs New Zealand, Galle, 2024

The fourth test ton for Kamindu Mendis came at Galle, his first home test century. It was the first match of the two-match test series against New Zealand in September 2024.

It was a match-winning knock of 114 runs off 173 runs in the first innings to help Sri Lanka reach 305. Eventually, they won the game by 63 runs.

2. 164 vs Bangladesh, Sylhet, 2024

Kamindu Mendis scored two hundreds in his comeback test against Bangladesh in March in Sylhet. After registering his maiden test ton in Sri Lanka’s first innings, Kamindu, in the second innings, made 164 off 237 balls, with 16 fours and six sixes. It is the second-highest score in his brief test career so far.

1. 182* vs New Zealand, Galle, 2024

The fifth test century for Kamindu Mendis came against New Zealand in the second test in Galle, and this is his highest score in test cricket so far. He became the fastest Asian batter to reach five centuries in test cricket, taking only 13 innings to do so.

In Sri Lanka’s first innings, Kamindu scored an unbeaten 182 off 250 balls, taking his side to a giant total of 605/5.
