Rohit Sharma made his ODI debut against Ireland in 2007 in Belfast but it took him almost six years to cement his spot in the side. He finally flourished in the opening position in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and went from strength to strength.

Over the years, Rohit has changed his game at different stages of his career. Until 2021, he preferred a slow start and accelerated later to mount big totals. Now, he focuses on being more aggressive early on, aiming to give his team a strong start.

5. 162 vs West Indies, Mumbai, 2018

Opening the innings, Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant century (162*) against West Indies at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in 2018.

Batting first, India made a daunting total of 377/5 on the back of Rohit’s sublime knock of 162 runs off 137 balls, which included 20 fours and four sixes. India won the one-sided game by 224 runs.

4. 171* vs Australia, Perth, 2016

Rohit played a terrific knock of 171* runs against Australia in Perth in 2016. Batting first, India made 309/3 on the back of Rohit’s 171 off 163 balls, which included 13 fours and seven sixes.

Rohit added 207 runs with Virat Kohli for the second wicket. Despite his efforts, India lost the game by five wickets. Steve Smith was named Player of the Match for his 149 off 135 balls.

3. 208* vs Sri Lanka, Mohali, 2017

One of Rohit’s most memorable ODI innings came in Mohali against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Rohit’s unbeaten 208-run knock, which consisted of 13 fours and 12 sixes, propelled the visitors to a massive first-innings score of 392 runs. The Indian opener was well supported by Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer, who both contributed with valuable half-centuries to lay the foundation for a massive total.

India won the game by 135 runs.

2. 209* vs Australia, Bengaluru, 2013

Rohit’s first ODI double century came in Bengaluru during Australia’s tour of India in 2013. Batting first, the Indian innings was led by Sharma’s 209-run knock which came off 158 balls.

The opener joined hands with MS Dhoni to add 167 runs for the fifth wicket. Rohit’s superb innings included 12 fours and 16 sixes.

Despite James Faulkner’s late batting efforts, India won the match by 57 runs.

1. 264 vs Sri Lanka, Kolkata, 2014

Rohit Sharma registered his highest ODI score of 264 during the fourth ODI of Sri Lanka tour of India in 2014.

Batting first, India notched up a massive total of 404/5 on the back of Rohit’s stunning double-century, which included 33 fours and nine sixes. He put on 202 runs with Virat Kohli for the third-wicket, setting the stage for late fireworks.

The hosts won the game by 153 runs with Rohit being named as Player of the Match.
