Shubman Gill made his test debut in December 2020 in Australia.

One of the most talented young batsmen Indian cricket has seen in the past decade is Shubman Gill. Touted for big things right from age-group cricket, Gill was India’s leading run-scorer and the Man of the Tournament in the 2018 under-19 World Cup triumph.

He went on an expected rise – contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and hefty runs in domestic cricket saw him make his ODI debut in 2019 and test debut in 2020.

Gill made his test debut on a tough assignment in Australia but returned with one of the most famous innings in Indian test cricket history, as he scored 91 in the victory at the Gabba.

However, he suffered a dip in form and remained inconsistent in test cricket, which saw him get dropped from the side as well. He returned to form during the 2024 test series against England at home by being the second-highest run-scorer in the series and cemented his place as the new No. 3 in the test side.

In this article, let’s look at Gill’s top five scores in test cricket.

Top 5 highest scores by Shubman Gill in test cricket:

5. 104 vs England, Visakhapatnam, 2024

With his place in the test side virtually on the line, Gill produced a terrific innings of 104 runs off 147 balls against England in the Visakhapatnam test in 2024.

The right-hander, now being asked to bat at number 3 after India had dropped Pujara, creamed 11 fours and a couple of sixes in his innings that helped India set a target of 399 for England. India won the match by 106 runs and Gill’s ton proved to be immensely crucial.

4. 110 vs England, Dharamsala, 2024

In India’s first innings against England in Dharamsala in the 2024 home series, captain Rohit Sharma and Gill scored high-quality knocks, with both the right-handers recording centuries, propelling India on their way to a huge total of 477 runs.

Gill even had a better strike rate than Rohit in this innings. India eventually won the match with a huge margin of an innings and 64 runs.

3. 110 vs Bangladesh, Chattogram, 2022

This is one of Gill’s best test knocks considering he made it in India’s second innings on a Chattogram pitch that was gradually opening up and helping the Bangladeshi spinners. India already had a significant lead in the first innings and then Gill and Pujara piled up more misery on the hosts with their respective centuries.

Gill laced 10 fours and three sixes in his knock of 110 (152) while Pujara scored 102 (130). India set Bangladesh a target of 513 runs and the hosts were bowled out for 324.

2. 119* vs Bangladesh, Chennai, 2024

Gill played one of the most comfortable centuries in test cricket in recent years when he danced his way to 119 off 176 balls against Bangladesh in the Chennai test in 2024. The right-hander barely played a false shot throughout his knock.

He collected 10 fours, and hit four eye-catching sixes against off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Gill formed a huge partnership with Rishabh Pant, who scored 109, courtesy of which India ended with a second-innings lead of 514 runs.

1. 128 vs Australia, Ahmedabad, 2023

Shubman Gill’s highest score in test cricket came in the Ahmedabad test against Australia in 2023. Australia scored 480 in their first innings, to which India replied with a huge total of 571, which they made on the back of 128 from Gill and 186 from Virat Kohli. Gill whacked 12 fours and a six.

This was a very flat, and lifeless pitch in Ahmedabad with nothing in it for the bowlers. The game petered out to a dull draw.
