Suryakumar Yadav made his T20I debut in 2021 against England.

Suryakumar Yadav had one of the most memorable T20I debuts as he hooked England’s speed sensational Jofra Archer for a six on the first ball he faced in international cricket.

After helping Mumbai Indians (MI) win consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) titles in 2020 and 2021, Suryakumar made his T20I debut in 2021 against England. In his maiden T20I innings, he cracked 57 off 31 balls to lead India to a comfortable win over the Three Lions.

From thereon, Yadav didn’t look back and rose to the number 1 ICC T20I Batting rankings twice. His second stint at the top of the ranking lasted for more than a year, from December 2023 to June 2024. The right-hander has recorded multiple T20I centuries and over a dozen half-centuries in the format.

With an average of over 40 and a strike rate of over 160, Suryakumar Yadav, who bats with elite intent, fearlessness, and selflessness, is hailed as the arguably best T20 batsman in the world.

In this article, we will look at his top five highest scores in the shortest international format.

Top five highest scores by Suryakumar Yadav in T20I cricket:

5. 83 vs West Indies, 2023

When the fifth-highest score in T20Is is 83, you know the batsman is extra special. During a T20I in Guyana in 2023, Suryakumar scored more than half of India’s runs. He scored 83 (44) in the chase of 160.

Through his innings, which included 10 fours and four sixes, India won by seven wickets in hand and with 13 balls to spare.

4. 100 vs South Africa, 2023

Once again, Suryakumar was responsible for half of India’s runs as in a T20I against South Africa in Johannesburg in December 2023, Yadav scored 100 runs in India’s total of 201.

It was one of those rare innings where a batter hit more sixes (8) than fours (7). Yadav’s 100 (56) helped India to a 106-run victory.

3. 111* vs New Zealand, 2022

Suryakumar Yadav had a great run in 2022 in T20Is, which he concluded with a century in Mount Maunganui against New Zealand. Batting first, India posted 191, largely on the back of Suryakumar’s stunning knock of 111* runs off 51 balls. He walloped 11 fours and seven sixes in his innings.

India won the game comfortably by 65 runs.

2. 112* vs Sri Lanka, 2023

Suryakumar’s first T20I century in India came in 2023 when he blew away Sri Lanka with his surreal knock of 112* runs off 51 balls in Rajkot. Coming in to bat in the sixth over, the right-hander hammered seven fours and nine sixes in a highly entertaining innings.

Suryakumar Yadav’s maiden T20I century is perhaps the best of his centuries in T20Is. Although it came in a losing cause, Yadav showed a great fight against England, who won the T20 World Cup that year.

In Nottingham, while chasing 216, India were in trouble at 31/3. From there, Yadav lunched a thunderous counter-attack, blasting 117 runs in 55 balls with the help of 14 fours and six sixes. However, he got out in the 19th over and India lost by 17 runs.
