Several teams have bagged victories while chasing big totals in the playoffs of IPL.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) did not have the playoffs rounds in the initial seasons. The top four teams used to clash in the semi-finals and the winners of the semis locked horns in the final.

However, the IPL authority found this format a little unfair for the top two teams in the points table. Despite finishing in the top two slots, a single goof-up in the knockout ended their journey in the tournament.

Hence, the playoffs format was introduced in the IPL, where the top two teams get two chances to make it to the final through Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 clashes. Moreover, the third and fourth- placed teams have to win two games in a row to book a berth in the final.

Over the years, several teams have posted mammoth totals in the playoffs. Moreover, a few teams have also chased down big totals, showcasing their might with the batting.

Punjab Kings hold record for highest-ever chase in IPL playoffs

The highest-ever successful chase in IPL playoffs was recorded by Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. In the Qualifier 2 game against Mumbai Indians, they chased down a 204-run target by five wickets.

After being asked to bat first, MI posted a respectable total of 203/6 in the first innings. While none of their batters could hit a fifty, Jonny Bairstow (38), Tilak Varma (44), Suryakumar Yadav (44), and Naman Dhir (37) made vital contributions.

However,, Shreyas Iyer came up with a fabulous batting show in the chase. He scored an unbeaten 87 runs to drive the Punjab to a victory by five wickets. Nehal Wadhera (48) and Josh Inglis (38) also made crucial contributions with the bat. PBKS chased down the target in 19 overs to script the record for the highest-ever chase in IPL playoffs.
