Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have lost five matches in the IPL 2024 so far.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the very start in 2008. But they are one of the few teams that have not won the title yet. Well, there was a ray of hope when the RCB women won the WPL 2024, and it looked like they had broken the jinx. But the performance of the men’s team in the IPL 2024 has shattered everything, again.

After the first six games, RCB are at the ninth position in the points table and are the first team to lose five matches in the ongoing tournament. Whether at home or away, they are not winning anything, which has certainly left the loyal fanbase of RCB devastated. Like many seasons, RCB are likely to face the situation of depending on others. However, everything is still not gone. There is still a clear chance for them to make it to the playoffs from here on.

IPL 2024: Here’s how RCB can qualify to the playoffs

RCB registered their solitary win against Punjab Kings at home, which was also a close game that could have gone either way. But apart from that, they have lost against CSK, KKR, LSG, RR, and MI. They have a poor NRR of -1.124, and we have seen how important it is to have a good NRR in a ten-team tournament. Though Delhi Capitals are behind them at 10th position with two points and NRR of -1.370, they have played one game less. If DC win their next match, RCB will be pushed down to 10th. However, as per the format of the IPL 2024, every team will play 14 group matches.

It means RCB have 8 more games to go. As we have seen over the years, that 14 points can help you make the playoffs in third or fourth place if you have a better NRR. 16 points can guarantee a qualification, and 18 points will help to finish mostly in the top two. Thus, if RCB can win all eight of their 8 games, they will have 18 points. But it looks impossible the way they are going. But they can manage six wins from here on that will help them to end at 14 points, and if their NRR gets better with some big wins, it can help them to qualify.

Now look at their schedule. RCB will face SRH and GT twice. They will also face CSK, RR, PBKS, and KKR once in the remaining games. So if somehow Faf du Plessis and his team can find the right combination to win those matches, it can help them qualify. They will play four games at home in the remaining matches. So the simple equation for them is to win at least seven games with decent margin and hope other results can go their way.
