However, after a time, he was sidelined from Indian side. There was always speculation about the 36-year-old making a return to international cricket following his consistent performance in the Indian Premier League.
In the last two editions of the competitions, he has played a crucial role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru consecutive title triumph. In 2025, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 17 wickets in 14 matches; in the subsequent years, he took 28 wickets in 16 matches.
The 36-year-old was named in the Indian team for the five-match series against New Zealand in late October. However, his India recall came even before that series. He was added into India squad for last IND vs WI T20I after Arshdeep Singh sustained injury.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar last played for the Indian cricket team in November 2022 against New Zealand, as the game ended in a draw via the DLS method. The game was played during India’s tour of New Zealand at McLean Park in Napier.

Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj played well in the game, picking up four wickets each, while Bhuvneshwar had a rough game with no wickets in his kitty. In the second innings, India scored 76 runs in nine overs, and the match ended in a draw.
