India returned to winning track with a clean sweep against Zimbabwe
India finally ended their recent struggles in T20 cricket with a convincing 3-0 series sweep over Zimbabwe in Harare. After disappointing series defeats against Ireland and England, the young Indian side bounced back strongly under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer to finish the tour on a high.
Several youngsters impressed throughout the Zimbabwe series. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his aggressive and impressive work with the bat while Mayank Yadav made a successful comeback.
The clean sweep was also a special moment for Shreyas Iyer, who registered his first T20I series win as India’s captain. Stand-in head coach VVS Laxman praised the team’s attitude and credited players for playing collective cricket and perfectly executing their plans throughout the tour.
However, despite winning every match in Zimbabwe, one issue continued to trouble India. The fielding of the Indian team once again came under the spotlight after several catches were dropped in the UK & Zimbabwe tour.
After the final T20I, captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that his team’s performance was “flawless” except for the fielding mistakes.
Former captain Sunil Gavaskar also expressed his concern after the series. He stated that players who reportedly fail in the field should not be guaranteed a place in the playing XI and also said that modern-day cricket demands high-fielding standards.
