The ICC has officially announced the host venues for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 at a ceremony in Johannesburg on July 30, 2026. The Cricket World Cup will return to the African continent after 27 years, with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia set to host the upcoming tournament jointly.
The ICC has already confirmed 12 venues across the three host nations and unveiled the tournament’s official theme, “Three Nations, One Heartbeat.” It shows the culture, diversity and unity of the host countries while fostering collaborations to make the event successful.
South Africa will host matches in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Paarl and KuGompo City.
Zimbabwe’s venues include Harare Sports Club, Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo and the newly built Fale Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls. Meanwhile, Windhoek Cricket Ground will be Namibia’s first venue to host an ODI World Cup.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 to feature 57 matches
The ICC has confirmed that the 2027 Cricket World Cup will feature a total of 57 matches. The tournament will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia after a very long time.
The tournament is expected to be played between October and November 2027 and will feature 14 teams, making it bigger than the previous two ODI World Cups that had only 10 participating nations.
However, there’s a tentative schedule from October 4 to November 21, 2027; we can expect some changes, but it’s gonna be somewhere around this window.
New three-stage format for Cricket World Cup 2027 explained
Unlike the previous editions, the ICC has introduced a new three-stage format for the 2027 World Cup. The tournament will begin with the Super Series, where the teams ranked 12th to 14th will play against each other in a round-robin format. The winner of this stage will move into the main tournament.
The next phase will feature 12 teams, divided into two groups of six. Every team will play the others in its group once, making this stage a total of 30 matches.
After that, the top three teams from each group, along with the next best-placed team overall, will qualify for the Super 7 stage. This round will include 21 matches, where teams will again battle in a round-robin format.
In the end, the top four teams from the Super 7 stage will qualify for the semi-finals, followed by the final game.
