Mumbai Indians (MI) are clashing with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 24th game of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Thursday, April 16. The encounter is taking place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
MI opener Rohit Sharma is not part of the encounter. He was ruled out of the game due to a hamstring injury, which he sustained while batting in the previous game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
He has been replaced by Quinton de Kock as an opener. Moreover, Rohit might miss more games in IPL 2026 due to the recovery, which can come as a big blow for the Mumbai Indians.

At the toss of the MI vs PBKS game, Hardik Pandya said that Rohit will miss a couple of more games in IPL 2026.
“Yeah, Rohit is out from the last game. He’s gonna take a couple of games for him to see how exactly where he is. And Mitchell is unwell as well. So Mitchell Santner also is not available. So, yeah, we got a couple of changes. Quinny comes back and we have a debutant, Mayank Rawat,” he said.
Rohit was seen in the practice sessions ahead of MI vs PBKS game. However, he has not regained his full fitness. He also underwent scans to evaluate the seriousness of his hamstring injury.
The right-handed batsman was part of all four previous matches. He scored a half-century in the opening game against KKR. In the other three matches, he scored 35, 5, 19*. Since Rohit will be absent from a few more games, De Kock is expected to retain his spot as an opener.
Meanwhile, MI have witnessed a poor start in IPL 2026. They won their opening game against KKR but later lost three back-to-back matches. They are placed in the ninth spot in the points table with two points. Their next clash is against Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 20.
