India are the runners-up of the previous edition of the ICC ODI World Cup that was played in 2023.

India’s road to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 is entering a crucial phase, as the side has a limited number of matches to fine-tune its combination before the team leaves for the prestigious tournament in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Hence, the next few months before the next World Cup will be crucial for the Indian team management and the players, as well as the national selectors, who are most likely to keep a close eye on every player before settling on a final combination.

India’s recent ODI performances have not been as convincing as expected from a side with considerable experience. The team has faced serious challenges, especially around their bowling depth and consistency in the batting department. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also conducted a review meeting to understand the flaws that led to India’s failure in recent ODI series, especially under overseas conditions.

The period leading to the World Cup is also a decisive phase for the careers of many established cricketers. Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma and legendary batter Virat Kohli’s future continues to be a major talking point. At the same time, players such as Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma and other younger options will be looking to establish themselves irreplaceably in the middle order.

With a World Cup approaching and several big decisions to be made, the BCCI have planned a packed calendar with several ODI matches until IPL 2027. India are scheduled to play a total of 14 ODI matches, with some matches played away from home. This will be a major boost to India’s preparation for the World Cup.

India started their World Cup preparations with the ODI series against England. However, they should be extremely dissatisfied with the outcome of that series. England won the series 2-1 against the visitors.

Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play all ODIs for India till IPL 2027?

It is not guaranteed that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play all remaining ODIs leading up to IPL 2027, as their selection depends on ongoing form, fitness, and rotation policies, however, it seems likely that the two veterans will be backed by the Indian management and the selectors.
