Crossing the landmark of 500 runs in a Test innings requires contributions from several batters. India have achieved this magnificent feat several times in their Test history.
One of the latest additions to this list came during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, when India declared 503/9. Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal remained the two centurions from the match, while skipper Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant contributed handsomely with their respective half-centuries.

India have crossed the 500-run mark 92 times in Test cricket. India’s first 500-run milestone in red-ball cricket came in 1955 against New Zealand on home soil. Having passed the 500-run mark on so many occasions, India have also surpassed the 600-run mark several times.
What remains one of India’s biggest achievements in Test cricket is that they have passed the 700-run mark on four occasions, with their highest-ever team total in an innings being 759/7 declared against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in 2016.
KL Rahul missed his maiden Test double hundred by just one run, and Karun Nair scored an unbeaten triple century (303*) in that game.
Currently, India rank third on the list of teams who have scored 500+ totals the most times in Test cricket history. The two red-ball giants, Australia and England, are seated at the top of the list with 153 and 116 500+ totals, respectively.
