How much will Shreyas Iyer earn per match in IPL 2025?

Shreyas Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
India middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer will be joining a new franchise for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Having represented Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the Punjab Kings (PBKS) will be Iyer’s third IPL franchise.
Iyer became the most expensive player in IPL history when PBKS bought him for INR 26.75 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction. His record, however, didn’t stand for long as minutes later Lucknow Super Giants acquired Rishabh Pant for INR 27 crores.
Iyer had a terrific record as a captain in the IPL. He led DC to the runners-up position in IPL 2020 and propelled KKR to their third IPL title in IPL 2024.
Iyer surprisingly parted ways with KKR, with the franchise CEO Venky Mysore revealing that they wanted to retain Iyer, but the cricketer wanted to test his market value and hence opted to go to the mega auction.
Notably, from the IPL 2025 onwards, every player part of the playing XI and the Impact Player will get a match fee.
The BCCI has introduced a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per match, which is in addition to the players’ contract. This means that if a player features in all 14 league games, he will cash in INR 1.05 crores extra, and if he plays 16 matches, he will earn INR 1.2 crores extra.
How much will Shreyas Iyer earn per match in IPL 2025?
Since Shreyas Iyer was bought for INR 26.75 crores by Punjab Kings, and he is expected to feature in all 14 league games, he will make INR 27.8 crores overall in the season, which is INR 1.98 crores per match. If he gets to feature in 16 games, he will earn INR 1.73 crores per game.
At Punjab, Iyer will join Ricky Ponting with whom he worked extensively at Delhi Capitals. Ponting has all but confirmed that Iyer will lead the side in IPL 2025. Only an official announcement is awaited.
After completing the purchase of Iyer, Ponting told Star Sports, “He’ll be a great leader for our team if we decide to go that way, which I’m pretty sure we probably will.”
