The Mumbai Indians have lost three of their first four matches of IPL 2026.
The Mumbai Indians (MI) have witnessed a dismal start in the Indian Premier League 2026. The five-time champions commenced the tournament with a huge victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, they have lost three games in a row.
In the previous game, they were dominated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in both batting and bowling despite having the home advantage. Hardik Pandya & Co. are currently placed 8th in the points table.
After three consecutive defeats, they need to buckle up in the upcoming games. Otherwise, they might find it hard to reach the playoffs later. Below are three departments the Mumbai Indians need to improve to bounce back in IPL 2026.
How could MI bounce back in IPL 2026?
1. Aggressive batting in power play

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton are the openers for MI in IPL 2026. They have struggled to perform consistently across 4 games. Either Rohit or Rickelton has lost wickets early. This has hampered their batting in the power play. Both of them need to perform more aggressively at the start.
2. Better teamwork in bowling

The Mumbai Indians have some well-known bowlers like Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur. However, they have struggled to showcase brilliant teamwork.
For instance, their bowlers crumbled against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), who posted 150 runs in just 11 overs. In the previous game, RCB openers etched a stand of 120 runs. Hence, MI’s bowling unit needs to improve their planning to dominate the opposition batsmen.
3. Partnerships in middle overs

Despite having established batters in the middle order, MI have struggled to pile up runs in the middle overs. In both previous games, Sherfane Rutherford did an exceptional job in the death overs.
However, he could not get support from other middle-order batters. Therefore, batsmen like Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya need to build partnerships and accelerate the scoreboard in the middle overs.
How many games have MI won in IPL 2026 so far?
Mumbai have won one game and lost three out of four.
Who is captaining MI in IPL 2026?
Hardik Pandya is the captain of MI.
