Punjab Kings have a slim chance to qualify for the playoffs.

The journey of Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League 2026 has been quite surprising. Shreyas Iyer & Co. commenced the tournament with six consecutive victories.

They were the most dominant side in the first half and maintained the top spot in the points table. With their brilliant teamwork in batting and bowling, they overpowered other teams with ease and were seen as strong contenders to clinch the title.

However, the IPL 2025 runners-up witnessed a big setback in the second phase. While a few other teams bounced back after struggling to win games at the start, Punjab completely lost their magical form.

They have lost six games in a row, despite having home advantage in a few games. Their batters have struggled to chase targets while bowlers have failed to defend respectable totals. PBKS, once considered a strong contender for the top two, now have a big challenge of qualifying for the top four.

Punjab Kings currently occupy the fourth spot in the points table with 13 points. They have one more game left in the league stage. They are followed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). First of all, they need to win their last match and get 15 points.

They cannot leapfrog Royal Challengers Bengaluru (18 points) and Gujarat Titans (16 points) in the points table. Hence, they will have to face stiff competition from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.

The results of these three teams can also hamper Punjab’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs. All three of them have the chance to earn more than 15 points at the moment.

If Punjab have to qualify, CSK and RR will have to lose one match each, so that they will not be able to cross the 15-point mark. In such a scenario, PBKS can finish in the fourth spot in the points table and bag an entry to the playoffs.

How can the Punjab Kings qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs?

Punjab need to win their next game and hope that the results of SRH, RR, and CSK’s matches fall in their favour.

Who is captaining PBKS in IPL 2026?

Shreyas Iyer is the captain of the side.
