Sri Lanka have done well in the Asia Cup 2025 tournament, winning both their matches thus far in Group B. The Charith Asalanka-led side started their campaign by defeating Bangladesh and then made short work of Hong Kong in their second game.
Sri Lanka asked Bangladesh to bat first in their Asia Cup 2025 opener and kept them to 139/5 in 20 overs. Jaker Ali (41*) and Shamim Hossain (42*) were the standouts among Bangladeshi batters, while Wanindu Hasaranga picked two wickets. In response, Pathum Nissanka (50) and Kamil Mishara (46*) made short work of the chase, winning in 14.4 overs with six wickets in hand.
In their second match against Hong Kong, Sri Lanka again bowled first and restricted HK to 149/4 with Anshuman Rath (48) and Nizakat Khan (50*) being the main scorers. In response, Pathum Nissanka topped with 68 runs, while Kusal Perera and Wanindu Hasaranga made 20 each to give Sri Lanka a four-wicket win.
How can Sri Lanka qualify for the Super Four of the Asia Cup 2025?

Sri Lanka lead the Group B with four points from two matches and a solid net run rate of +1.546. If Sri Lanka defeats Afghanistan, the equation is clear. They will finish with six points, leading the group, and qualify for the Super Four stage.
Bangladesh, despite a low net run rate, will be the second side to advance from the group with four points. Afghanistan’s campaign would come to an end with two points in the competition.
If Sri Lanka lose to Afghanistan, they still will have a chance, as then NRR will come into play. But they need to avoid losing by a big margin.
