KL Rahul missed a well-deserved century in the first innings of SL vs IND Galle Test.

The first Test between Sri Lanka and India is underway at Galle International Stadium. Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first. India had a great start to the game, and Devdutt Padikkal scored his maiden test ton.

India finished Day 1 at 288/2 in 73 overs. The start of the second day was delayed due to rain, and the entire morning session was washed out. Sri Lanka showed a good comeback in the second session and took three wickets.

India ended the second session at 364/5. Padikkal carried his good form and ended up scoring 167 off 230 balls. KL Rahul was one of three wickets to fall on Day 2. He was retired hurt at 77 off 162 balls on the first day.

KL Rahul looked good on Day 1 of the Galle Test. He was looking good for a well-deserved century and would have made it. But he had to walk off the field due to cramps and physical exhaustion caused by the hot and humid conditions.

It broke his momentum, and he could only make 5 more runs on Day 2. It was his seventh score between 80 and 100 in Test cricket. Notably, he got out on 85 in 2017 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele. Here are his scores between the 80s and 100s.

  • 90 vs Australia (Bengaluru, 2017)
  • 85 vs Sri Lanka (Pallekele, 2017)
  • 84 vs England (Nottingham, 2021)
  • 86 vs England (Hyderabad, 2024)
  • 84 vs Australia (Brisbane, 2024)
  • 90 vs England (Manchester, 2025)
  • 82 vs Sri Lanka (Galle, 2026)

However, Rahul laid a great foundation for Team India. He added 150 runs for the second wicket on the first day of the Test. Rahul has been a consistent performer for India at the top.

He has scored 2230 runs in 34 matches with six centuries and ten half-centuries in the World Test Championship. Speaking of the ongoing test, the rain has always made an impact on the game.

Team India would be looking to speed up the rate to give themselves a chance in the ongoing test. Especially when the rain is predicted for the upcoming three days.
