Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has failed to live up to the expectations with bat in Tri-nation A series.
The Tri-nation A series is underway in Sri Lanka. It started on June 9, 2026; with India-A, Sri Lanka-A and Afghanistan-A contesting for the trophy. A total of seven matches will be played, all in the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Sri Lanka.
Tilak Varma is leading the Indian side, with Sahan Arachchige captaining Sri Lanka, and Imran Mir captaining Afghanistan. While all the teams are on the same points in the table, Sri Lanka are at the top due to their Net Run Rate.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the leading run-scorer in the series so far, with 200+ runs in the three matches; meanwhile, Farmanullah Safi has picked the most wickets (5) so far.
India A played their second game against Sri Lanka A on June 15. The hosts opted to bowl first against. India had a scratchy start in the game, with Prabhsimran Singh struggling with the new ball. The other batsmen too faced issues on this pitch today, with Gaikwad scoring 37, and Tilak going for 23.

All eye were again on the teenage sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. However, he failed to make a mark and also got out cheaply after scoring 21 runs off 14 balls.
Sooryavanshi has been unable to perform well in this series yet. He has accumulated only 79 runs across three matches, with 14, 44 and 21 as his scores.
Sooryavanshi had a phenomenal IPL 2026 season where he scored 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237. He hit the most sixes in the history of IPL tournament. He won the Orange Cap and was the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
Due to his heroics in the IPL, the social media was buzzing ever since Sooryavanshi got selected in the India A setup for this Tri-Nation A series. He has also been picked for India tour of UK for the T20Is against Ireland and England.
Vaibhav got good starts in the games, but has not been able to capitalise on the same. While one can agree that the pitches have been relatively tougher to score on, but the standards that Vaibhav has created for himself, are yet to be met in this series.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the Player of the Tournament in the iCC U-19 World Cup 2026, where he scored 439 runs in 7 innings, with a match-defining 175 in the Final. He had an average of 63 in the tournament.
While this was an almost do-or-die game for India, they still have a match remaining against Afghanistan A.
