Cricket Canada has come under massive scanner as ICC Anti-Corruption begins investigation.

Cricket is one of the most loved sports in the world. Events like the ICC T20 World Cup attract millions of fans as countries compete with pride. The game is expected to be fair and transparent at all levels.

However, concerns around corruption have remained a challenge. Over the years, the International Cricket Council has taken strong steps to protect the game. Its Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) works to prevent illegal activities. This includes match-fixing, betting links, and outside influence.

Cricket boards are also expected to follow strict rules. Good governance and fair player selection are key. When these standards are questioned, it raises serious doubts. It also affects the trust of fans and players across the world.

The focus has now shifted to Cricket Canada. The ICC’s ACU is currently looking into some shocking allegations. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, these include issues at both international and domestic levels.

One major point of investigation is linked to a match from the recent T20 World Cup. The game involved the Canada and New Zealand. A specific over during the match has come under scrutiny. Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwa bowled that over.

Notably, Bajwa is a batting all-rounder who delivered two overs in the match. He conceded several extra runs, including a no ball and a wide. Overall, Bajwa conceded 35 runs in his two over spell. This raised suspicions and led to further checks.

Another investigation involves former coach Khurram Chohan. A leaked phone recording suggests that senior and now former board members pressured him to pick certain players in the team. Similar claims were made by former coach Pubudu Dassanayake. He said he faced threats over team selection decisions.

The situation gets more complex with off-field issues. Former CEO Salman Khan has faced legal trouble. There are also reports of delayed player payments and contract problems.

The ICC has not confirmed any wrongdoing yet. But the investigations show that the governing body is taking these matters seriously. An official statement is awaited by the ICC on the matter.

What does the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit do?

It checks corruption, match-fixing, and unfair activities in cricket.

Has Cricket Canada been proven guilty?
