ICC recently replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in T20 World Cup 2026
The International Cricket Council (ICC) became part of big controversy after removing the Bangladesh Cricket Team from T20 World Cup 2026. This came after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested ICC to relocate their matches to Sri Lanka earlier this month.
After Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was removed from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came at loggerheads. Bangladesh decided not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup, citing security issues for their players.
ICC, who denied the request from the start, eventually refused to accept Bangladesh’s demand. They disagreed to make any last-minute changes to the schedule, a decision that was also favoured by the majority of the ICC members in an official meeting. As a result, Bangladesh were removed from the tournament and Scotland replaced them in Group C.
ICC sparks another controversy ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Notably, the cricket governing body has sparked another controversy ahead of T20 World Cup 2026. According to reports by Bangladeshi media, ICC has refused giving accreditation to Bangladeshi journalists for the tournament.
Earlier, several journalists received confirmation emails from ICC to cover matches; however, they were later informed that their accreditation requests had been rejected. A journalist told local media that he got a confirmation message from the ICC on January 20, followed by a subsequent mail stating his application was rejected.
Senior Bangladeshi journalists pointed out that ICC has issued accreditation to journalists from associate and full-member nations in the past, even though those nations were not part of the tournaments.
Sports journalists’ associations in Bangladesh have expressed their displeasure over the matter and are looking forward to acting on it soon. They are also unsatisfied with not getting an explanation for the mass rejection.
Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Media Committee Chairman Amzad Hossain revealed that about 130 to 150 Bangladeshi journalists applied for accreditation; however, their applications were rejected.
Although ICC has not responded to the matter so far, a source informed that their media department has requested a list of journalists from a representative news media organisation in Bangladesh that looks forward to covering the tournament.
Some sources also added that the accreditation process for Bangladeshi journalists will be restarted but they will only get approvals to cover the matches in Sri Lanka rather than India. However, official statements on the matter from the ICC are awaited.
