India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 came to a conclusion on Sunday, March 9 as India defeated New Zealand by wickets to clinch their third title.
After being asked to bowl first, India bowled tightly in the middle overs and restricted New Zealand to 251 runs in the first innings. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy starred with two wickets each.
In reply, the Indian chase was led by captain Rohit Sharma, who scored 76 off 83 balls to give India a strong start. He received support from Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya, who all played small but valuable knocks to guide India to a four-wicket win.
The tournament was disappointing for Pakistan, Bangladesh, and England, who failed to register a single win, while Afghanistan impressed with a victory over England in their first-ever Champions Trophy appearance.

On Monday, March 10, the ICC announced the Team of the Tournament for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, featuring four Indian players – Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Mohammed Shami. Meanwhile, Axar Patel has been named as the 12th player in the squad.
Kohli, Iyer, and Rahul all had an excellent tournament with the bat, scoring 218, 243, and 140 runs respectively. However, Indian captain and opener Rohit Sharma failed to make the cut. Meanwhile, New Zealand captain and all-rounder Mitchell Santner was named captain of the side.
The openers of the team are young talents Rachin Ravindra and Ibrahim Zadran, who both impressed with 251 and 216 runs respectively in the tournament. Ravindra was even named as the Player of the Tournament for his incredible show with the bat and three wickets in the competition.
Two all-rounders in the side are New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips and Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai. Omarzai played a key role in Afghanistan’s memorable victory over England. He finished the tournament with 126 runs and seven wickets. Meanwhile, Phillips made headlines with his brilliant fielding and scored 177 runs in five games.
Mohammed Shami and Matt Henry have been picked as the two fast bowlers of the team. Shami claimed nine wickets in five games, while Henry, despite missing the final due to a shoulder injury, finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps.
Varun Chakaravarthy joins Santner as the second spinner in the team. Varun made his way into India’s playing XI in their third group-stage match against New Zealand, taking nine wickets in three games, including two wickets in the final.
