The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan.

In its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Colombo, the International Cricket Council (ICC) approved a budget of approximately $65 million for the Champions Trophy 2025. This budget includes the costs required for hosting a few games outside Pakistan.

This is a major development and it indicates that the ICC is preparing itself for India potentially not travelling to Pakistan if they don’t get the Government of India’s approval. In that case, a hybrid model for the tournament could be used – one that was executed during the Asia Cup 2023, when India’s matches, including the final, were held in Sri Lanka.

The Chief Executives Committee (CEC) approval note said, “PCB has signed Host Agreement and has worked with management to draft an event budget which is submitted F&CA for approval. Management has also approved an estimate of the increase in the cost of staging the event if it is necessary to play some matches outside Pakistan.”

“A planning meeting and inspection of proposed match venues took place in Pakistan in March 2024. A significant amount of renovation work is underway in all three venues to upgrade facilities.”

PCB allocates Lahore to host all of India’s matches in the Champions Trophy 2025

In the draft schedule that the PCB submitted to the ICC, all of India’s matches are slated for Lahore, including the semi-final, if India qualify. The final is also scheduled to be played in Lahore on March 9.

Karachi and Rawalpindi are the other two venues that will host the Champions Trophy 2025.

Cricbuzz reported that $35 million has been allocated for the tournament, $20 million for participation and prize money and $10 million for the production costs of the tournament.

Group A includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. Group B includes Australia, England, Afghanistan and South Africa. Warm-up matches will be played from February 12 to 18.

Pakistan are the defending champions. They won the Champions Trophy 2017 defeating India in the final.
