India defeated New Zealand in the final to win ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title.
India had yet another successful and undefeated campaign at an ICC event as they went into script history in Dubai. India defeated New Zealand in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and became the first team to win the title three times.
With this, India added seventh ICC title in senior men’s cricket to their cabinet. It was another clinical performance by India as they dominated all the oppositions in the tournament and didn’t let anyone come close to them. All the players made key contributions and helped India become the champions.
But, India used only 12 players in their entire campaign. There were three players who warmed the bench and became champions. Here we will talk about those three Indian stars.
Three Indian stars who won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title without playing a single game
1. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant played a crucial role in India winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, but he didn’t get a game in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It was largely because of exceptional performances from KL Rahul as the wicket-keeper batter of the side.
Rahul was cool and calm and played a great role as a finisher. His keeping was another great aspect of his game. That is why Pant didn’t get a chance to get included in the playing XI.
2. Arshdeep Singh
With no Jasprit Bumrah available, Mohammed Siraj not picked, and Mohammed Shami coming from injury, Arshdeep Singh was considered India’s go-to pacer for the tournament. But surprisingly, he didn’t get a single game to play.
It was all because of the conditions and the form of Indian spinners. After the first two group-stage games, India went with a four-spinner attack with Shami and Hardik Pandya as the two seamers. That kept Arshdeep out of the playing XI. Nevertheless, he has now won two ICC titles in a span of one year.
3. Washington Sundar
Many questioned India’s tactics of picking five spinners for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But it worked well for them, and it became a success mantra eventually. But, Washington Sundar might feel himself unlucky, as he was the only spinner who didn’t get a game in the entire tournament.
The other four spinners were so accurate and brilliant with the plans that kept Sundar to sit out. But he has gotten his championship medal, and he is part of the team that lifted the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
