Australia beat England in Lahore to kick off their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a win.

Finally, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 produced a high-scoring match as Australia chased down the target of 352 runs against England in Lahore on a flat pitch at the Gaddafi Stadium to earn their first two points and kick off their campaign in style.

Batting first, England rode on Ben Duckett’s Champions Trophy record knock of 165 runs off 143 balls, which included 17 fours and three sixes, to finish with a massive total of 351 runs. Joe Root, batting at No. 4, scored 68 off 78 balls.

Australia stuttered in their chase after the first powerplay and were 136/4 in the 23rd over. Then Alex Carey and Josh Inglis joined hands to form a splendid partnership of 146 runs off 116 balls. Carey departed for 69 off 63.

Glenn Maxwell and Inglis disdainfully tore into the England bowlers, walloping 74 runs off only 36 balls to seal the match with 15 balls to spare and five wickets in hand. Josh Inglis was the top-scorer for Australia with a thunderous knock of 120* off 86 balls that included eight fours and six sixes. Maxwell cracked 32* off 15 balls.
