The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is nearing the end of the group stage. The tournament has been full of entertainment and has seen teams posting big scores on batting-friendly pitches.
The historic tournament saw 11 centuries in first 11 group-stage games. Ibrahim Zadran made history with registering the highest individual score in the tournament’s history, smashing 177 against England in Lahore.
As we move towards the knockout stage of the tournament with the semi-finals scheduled on March 4 and 5 and the final on March 9, let’s take a look at the teams who have qualified for the semi-finals.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Teams who have qualified for semi-finals
1. India
India have emerged as one of the strongest teams in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Men in Blue looked like a balanced unit with batting depth and six complete bowling options.
They began their campaign with a dominant six-wicket win against Bangladesh, followed by another six-wicket victory against Pakistan in Dubai. Shubman Gill has led the run-scorers’ charts for the team with 147 runs, while Mohammed Shami has been the most successful bowler with five wickets.
They will face New Zealand on March 2 in their last group-stage fixture, which will decide who tops the Group A standings and also the semi-final opponents.
New Zealand
New Zealand are known for their consistency in ICC tournaments. The Kiwis are unbeaten in the tournament so far, with two wins in two games.
They defeated Pakistan in the opening game of the tournament by 60 runs and then beat Bangladesh by five wickets in Rawalpindi. Tom Latham has been their top run-scorer with 173 runs, while Michael Bracewell has led the bowling department with five wickets.
They will face India on March 2 in their last group stage match. The management will expect Kane Williamson to return to form before the semi-finals.
Australia
Despite coming to the tournament without many senior players, Australia have qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finals. Notably this will be their first appearance in semi-finals of the tournament since their appearance in 2009, which they won.
The Aussies made history by chasing 352 runs against England in their first group stage match in Lahore. Their second and third matches against South Africa and Afghanistan ended without result as rain played spoilsport in both of the games.
Australia, however, will need to find a replacement for opener Matthew Short, who injured his quad during the Afghanistan match and is unlikely to play again in the tournament.
South Africa
South Africa became the last team to qualify for the semi-finals during their last group-stage match of the tournament against England on March 1. The Proteas needed to avoid losing the game by more than 207 runs, which they accomplished by bowling England out for 179 in the first innings.
They began their campaign with a dominant 107-run win against Afghanistan in Karachi. However, their next game against Australia ended without a result due to rain in Rawalpindi.
They will closely monitor the fitness of Temba Bavuma, Tony de Zorzi, and Aiden Markram before the semi-finals.
