Afghanistan defeated England by 69 runs to register their first win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

In the 13th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 held in Delhi, Afghanistan emerged victorious against the defending champions, England. England, winning the toss, opted to field first. Afghanistan set a target of 285 runs. The highlight of their innings was Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who played an outstanding knock, scoring 80 runs off 57 balls at a striking rate of 140.35. Contributions from other Afghan batsmen, including Ikram Alikhil, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, propelled them to a total of 284 for the loss of 10 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

In response, England's batting line-up struggled against Afghanistan's formidable bowling-attack. Despite the efforts of Harry Brook, who scored 66 runs, and Dawid Malan who scored 32, England were bundled out for 215 in 40.3 overs. Afghanistan's bowlers, led by Mujeeb Ur Rahman , Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, proved to be the difference-makers. This historic victory marked Afghanistan's first win in the tournament and their second-ever win in ICC Cricket World Cup history.
