Pakistan successfully chased down 345 against Sri Lanka in the 8th match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Pakistan have kept their dominance against Sri Lanka in the World Cup as they defeat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in a record-breaking chase. Pakistan have chased down 345 runs against Sri Lanka and this is the highest-ever chase in a World Cup game. They also kept their unbeaten record against Sri Lanka intact as they got their 8th consecutive win against Lanka in the World Cup tournament. Abdullah Shafique (113) and Mohammad Rizwan (131*) played match-winning knocks to give Pakistan an unbeaten beginning in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 344 runs on the board with the help of Kusal Mendis (122) and Sadeera Samarawickrama's (108) centuries. Sri Lankan bowlers couldn’t carry the momentum after getting two early wickets during the Pakistan chase. Mohammad Rizwan (131*) and Abdullah Shafique (113) added 176 runs for the 3rd wicket and steered Pakistan towards a historic chase.

Pakistan now go on to the top of the points table with two back-to-back wins in their campaign. Pakistan defeated the Netherlands in the first game and now they have won against Sri Lanka. Pakistan with 4 points in 2 games are placed 2nd in the table with a NRR of +0.927.

Along with Pakistan, New Zealand have got 4 points in 2 games as they defeated England in the tournament opener and a dominating win over the Netherlands. New Zealand are currently placed at top spot with a NRR of +1.958. Sri Lanka are placed 10th in the table with two back-to-back defeats. Team India are currently 4th in the points table and will take on Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday.

Pakistan wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan has become the leading run-scorer after his magnificent century against Sri Lanka. Rizwan scored unbeaten 131 runs against Sri Lanka, Rizwan now has 199 runs in 2 innings. Sri Lankan Kusal Mendis scored a record-breaking century against Pakistan is now the 2nd leading run-scorer in the tournament with 198 runs in 2 innings.

Kusal scored 122 runs in 77 balls with 14 fours and 6 sixes. Rizwan and Mendis has overtaken New Zealand opener Devon Conway who is third on the list with 184 runs in 2 innings. The Kiwi all-rounder Rachin Ravindra is third in the list with 174 runs in 2 innings, Ravindra scored a half-century against the Netherlands after a century knock in the opening game against England. Joe Root is currently 5th on this list with 159 runs in 2 innings.
