ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Squads of all 10 teams
10 teams will be participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, while the numbers will increase in the next edition.
Just like in 1992 and 2019, the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be played in the round-robin format, where each team will play one match against all other participants in the league stage. India will be hosting this mega event as lone hosts for the first time.
Before this, in the previous 3 editions in 1987,1996 and 2011, India hosted World Cup along with co-hosts Pakistan (1987, 96) Sri Lanka (1996, 2011), and Bangladesh (2011). The tournament will be played in India in 12 different venues where 10 will be hosting the main event and 2 set for only Warm-up games.
Ahmedabad to host tournament opener
The tournament is set to begin with a blockbuster clash at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when defending champions England will take on the 2019 runners-up New Zealand. The big World Cup clash between India and Pakistan will also be held at the same venue on 14th October. New Zealand will take on Australia on 28th October at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, and England will take on Australia on 4th November at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
No West Indies in World Cup 2023
For the first time in history, the tournament will be played without two-time champions West Indies as they failed to qualify for the main event after losing to Scotland, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Netherlands in the World Cup qualifier. Sri Lanka and the Netherlands qualified for the mega event after playing World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Afghanistan and Bangladesh got the World Cup ticket directly after their superb campaign in the World Cricket super league. India qualified as the hosts. Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, and Pakistan booked their spot with their World Cricket super league performance.
The deadline to announce the final squads for the World Cup is 30 days before the World Cup 2023 event commences. As per a few media reports, India will be announcing their squad in the first week of September. So far only Australia have picked up a preliminary group and are yet to take a final call on their 15-member squad for the event. The rest of the teams are in a discussion within the group to decide on the final 15-member squad. By the end of this month, most of the teams will be deciding on their respective squads.
