Shocking! ICC to reduce Cricket World Cup 2027 from 14 to 12 teams - Reports

Cricket World Cup 2027 is set to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 has begun. The mega event will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Although, the official dates are yet to be announced, reports have suggest that the tournament will run from October 4 to November 21, 2027.
The Cricket World Cup (CWC), which is played every four years, is the biggest event in the history of sports. The last edition was played in 2023, which was hosted by India. Australia won that year, adding a sixth trophy to their World Cup cabinet.
In the 2019 and 2023 Cricket World Cups, ten teams had contested. It was a round-robin format, where each team played all the other teams, and eventually two semi-finals were played. England and Australia were the winners of the 2019 and 2023 editions, respectively.
However, prior to those two seasons, the World Cup featured more teams. In the 2011 and 2015 editions, a total of 14 teams contested in the tournament. There were two groups of seven teams each.
ICC in discussions to cut back the Cricket World Cup 2027 to 12 teams

In 2021, the ICC had announced that the 2027 World Cup would feature 14 teams again. However, there are discussions ongoing regarding reducing the number to 12, as per Tristan Lavalette.
In the pursuit of making cricket a global sport, and increasing its popularity worldwide, the sport has been re-introduced in the Olympics, and will be played in the LA Olympics 2028.
However, the move to reduce the World Cup teams would not be welcomed by associate nations who await their chances to feature in the marquee event. The biggest tournament that defines the sport should embrace maximum participation and introduction of the associate nations as well.
The emerging nations such as Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Netherlands, among others, have been doing exceptionally well whenever given a chance against big teams. They do not get the opportunity to play many bilateral series, and the World Cup remains their only platform to contest in high-octane clashes. Such nations should be encouraged more and given a stage to exhibit their skills.
When is the ODI World Cup 2027?

Which countries are hosting the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027?
