Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with a back injury.

On Tuesday, March 4, India defeated Australia by four wickets in the first semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Men in Blue will now face the winners of the second semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand in Dubai on March 9.

Australia made a strategic change before the game, bringing in extra spinner Tanveer Sangha in place of Spencer Johnson.

Batting first, Australia maintained a good run rate, but lost wickets at regular intervals. They got off to a flying start with Travis Head riding his luck to help the team cross the 60-run mark in the powerplay.

Steve Smith and Alex Carey led the scoring for Australia later with both of them scoring half-centuries. Smith top-scored with 73, while Carey played a quickfire knock of 61 to propel them to a competitive total of 264 runs.

India’s run chase was all about Virat Kohli. The veteran Indian batter held one end and helped the team recover from 43/2. He added 91 runs with Shreyas Iyer for the third wicket and was supported by useful contributions from Iyer and Axar in the middle overs.

KL Rahul (42*) and Hardik Pandya (28) applied the finishing touch to seal a four-wicket win and take India to their third consecutive ICC Champions Trophy final after 2013 and 2017.

Following India’s win in the semi-finals, fast bowling sensation Jasprit Bumrah, who was ruled out of the tournament, took it to social media to congratulate the team with a special message on X (formerly Twitter).

Bumrah wrote “Unstoppable” reacting to India’s fourth consecutive win in the tournament.

Earlier, Bumrah was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury, which he suffered during the Sydney test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
