Pakistan have lost both their matches so far.
Virat Kohli once again starred for India in a game against Pakistan as the Men In Blue thumped the Men In Green in Dubai to record a second consecutive victory at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and elected to bat first, but it was the Indian bowlers who kept a tight lid on Pakistan’s scoring rate throughout their innings.
Rizwan and Saud Shakeel had a third-wicket partnership of 104 runs but they took 144 balls, with Rizwan struggling for big hits in his innings of 46 runs off 77 balls. Shakeel scored 62 runs off 76 balls but neither could bat till the end nor got good support at the other end.
Eventually, Pakistan were bowled out for 241.
In the run chase, although Rohit Sharma got out early to Shaheen Afridi, Shubman Gill continued on his good form and Virat Kohli was at his fluent best. Gill got out for 46 before Kohli and Iyer formed a terrific partnership of 114 runs off 128 balls to effectively seal the game.
At the end, Kohli sealed off yet another chase and reached his century – his 51st ODI century – with a boundary.
Pakistan have now lost two games in two, having lost to New Zealand by 60 runs in Karachi earlier. Have their semi-finals qualification hopes dashed completely?
ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan’s semi-finals qualification scenario
Despite losses to New Zealand and India, Pakistan are alive in the race to qualify for the semi-finals for now. For Pakistan to qualify for the semis, Bangladesh and India both need to beat New Zealand, and Pakistan need to beat Bangladesh by a big margin that their net run rate in the end is better than both Bangladesh and New Zealand.
If New Zealand beat Bangladesh in their Group A fixture on Monday, Pakistan will get eliminated from the tournament, while India and New Zealand will qualify for the semi-finals from Group A.
