Pakistan hold the hosting rights of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The venue(s) for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has still not been decided as India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan has complicated the hosting arrangements for the ICC.

Pakistan, who were awarded the hosting rights of the Champions Trophy 2025 three years ago, planned to host the tournament across three venues – Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. However, India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan and Pakistan’s refusal to adopt a hybrid model has brought a deadlock situation between the two cricket boards and the ICC.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), led by chairman Mohsin Naqvi, had posed formal questions to the ICC regarding the Indian cricket team’s non-travel to Pakistan, which was confirmed once the Indian government denied permission to send the cricket team to their neighboring country with whom they have severed political ties.

Meanwhile, the ICC has not yet responded to PCB.

ICC board to discuss and vote on Champions Trophy 2025 venue on November 29

According to a recent report in ESPNcricinfo, the ICC has scheduled a virtual board meeting on November 29 to discuss and vote on the issue. The ICC board comprises representatives of 12 Full member nations, three Associate nations, the ICC chairman, the ICC CEO, and an independent director.

This will be the final meeting of the outgoing ICC chairman Greg Barclay before BCCI secretary Jay Shah takes over on December 1.

The PCB’s strict stance against the hybrid model has added to the complexity of organizing the tournament. Normally, for a global tournament, the ICC has in the past announced the schedule 100 days before the event, but the stringent India-Pakistan political situation has brought uncertainty.

Considering the magnitude of power both these nations hold in the cricketing fraternity, the ICC will try to come up with an alternative solution that satisfies the interests of these Asian giants.
