This will be the first ICC tournament in the 21st century that Pakistan will host. To assess the security and preparations in the hosting cities, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has sent a five-member team, which will reach Pakistan on Tuesday evening.
The five-member delegation will see the preparations and inspect Pakistan’s arrangements for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It will be a four-day visit, which will conclude on September 21 in Lahore.
ICC gives green signal to schedule the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 according to Pakistan’s draft – Reports
Pakistan are the defending champions, having won the last edition in 2017. However, there is still a big debate over Pakistan hosting the entire tournament, with India’s travel to Pakistan being highly unlikely However, the ICC’s move to send a team indicates that they are likely to give Pakistan a green signal to host at least other teams.
Notably, the National Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and Gaddafi Stadium are three venues that will be hosting the matches. The renovation work is underway to prepare these stadiums with all facilities.
The five-member delegation, which includes the senior events manager, senior officials, security manager, general manager of cricket, and production manager, will assess the facilities in the stadiums, practice facilities, and nearby hotels. The key reason is to check that all the facilities meet international standards to host an ICC event.
As reported by Cricbuzz, a PCB official said, “The redevelopment of the stadia in Karachi and Lahore is progressing rapidly, and the PCB is confident that the construction companies will meet their targets on time. These upgrades are not just a necessity but a critical step in elevating our venues to meet the expectations of the modern game.”
As per PCB’s draft, the tournament is scheduled from February 19 to March 9. The ICC has funded USD 65 million to conduct the tournament However, India’s participation is still not clear, and a hybrid model could be used.
