How many ODI matches will each participating team play before ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will feature eight nations.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played in February-March 2025. The tournament will feature eight teams: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa. The eight-nation tournament is traditionally played in 50-over format.
The last edition of the Champions Trophy was held in England in 2017 and it will return after an eight-year gap. The Pakistan cricket team are the defending champions. They defeated arch-rivals India in the grand finale to lift the prestigious title.
The first half of 2024 was dominated by tests and T20 cricket. Now, with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in sight, the participating teams will shift their focus to ODI cricket. On that note, let’s take a look at number of ODIs each team will play to prepare for the Champions Trophy next year.
Note: Schedule in this article contains from August 10, 2024 to February 18, 2025.
Here are the number of ODI matches each participating team has remaining to play before ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
1. Pakistan Cricket Team – 11/12 ODIs.

Defending champions Pakistan are not strong favourites to lift consecutive Champions Trophies, but they could be the dark horses once again. Pakistan’s ODI schedule ahead of the tournament begins in November 2024 with a tour to Australia, where they will play three ODIs.
After the Australia tour, Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe and then to South Africa in December for three matches each.
Ahead of the Champions Trophy, Pakistan will host a triangular series featuring New Zealand and South Africa alongside them in February 2025.
Pakistan now have 11 or 12 ODIs to prepare for the upcoming ICC tournament.
2. Afghanistan Cricket Team – 6 ODIs

Afghanistan will host South Africa for three ODIs in September in Sharjah and have three ODIs against Zimbabwe in December ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. Unfortunately, their scheduled series against Bangladesh was postponed indefinitely, leaving their total matches uncertain.
3. Australian Cricket Team – 8 ODIs

The Australian side will kick off their Champions Trophy 2025 preparation with a tour of the UK, where they will play five ODIs against England in September. The Aussies will then host Pakistan for three ODIs in November. This will give them a total of eight matches to prepare before the showpiece event.
4. Bangladesh Cricket Team – 3 ODIs

Bangladesh will play three ODIs against the West Indies in December. Their series against Afghanistan, which has been postponed indefinitely, might be rescheduled before the Champions Trophy.
5. England Cricket Team – 11 ODIs

The Three Lions will start their preparation by hosting Australia for a five-match ODI series in September. The English side will then tour the West Indies, where they will play three ODIs before flying to India to compete in three more ODIs in February before the Champions Trophy 2025.
6. Indian Cricket Team – 3 ODIs

The Indian cricket team have only three ODIs left before the Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue will host England for a three-match ODI series in February ahead of the marquee ICC tournament.
7. New Zealand Cricket Team – 5/6 ODIs

New Zealand will host Sri Lanka for three ODIs in January. In February, they will travel to Pakistan for a triangular tournament which includes South Africa.
8. South Africa Cricket Team – 11/12 ODIs.

South Africa will play three ODIs against Afghanistan in Sharjah in September and then three against Ireland in Abu Dhabi in October. The Proteas will then host Pakistan in December for three ODIs before travelling to Pakistan for the tri-nation series against the hosts and New Zealand.
