Dwayne Bravo retired from international cricket after ICC T20 World Cup in 2021.
Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been roped in as bowling consultant by Afghanistan cricket team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The global event will be jointly hosted by West Indies and the USA in the month of June.
The legendary all-rounder played 295 international matches and amassed 6423 runs. The 40-year-old Bravo also scalped 363 wickets. Bravo also has 100 First-Class, 227 List A, and 573 T20 caps to his name.
In T20 cricket, the former West Indies player is the leading wicket-taker, with 625 wickets to his name. Bravo has also smashed more than 6500 runs, which makes him one of the greatest fast bowling all-rounders in the shortest format.
DJ Bravo won the T20 World Cup twice with West Indies. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bravo won three titles with the Chennai Super Kings and one Champions League T20 trophy with the same franchise.
On Tuesday, May 21, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) through a media release informed about appointment of Dwayne Bravo as bowling consultant for the upcoming ICC event. The board stated, “The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announces the appointment of former West Indian great and T20 World Cup Winner Dwayne Bravo as the Bowling Consultant of the Afghanistan National Team for the T20 World Cup 2024. Bravo is set to join the team during the preparation camp ahead of the marquee event in the Caribbean.”
The legendary all-rounder also won the Pakistan Super League once. He won the Big Bash twice and the Caribbean Premier League five times. He also won the domestic Caribbean T20 league three times. This took his tally to 17 titles in the shortest format during his career.
Apart from his outstanding international career, Bravo served as the bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2024 tournament. However, Chennai failed to reach the playoffs.
The Afghanistan team has already arrived in the Caribbean Islands and is expected to begin their 10-day training camp in preparation for the upcoming ICC tournament. The training will be overseen by the coaching staff, including their new bowling consultant, Bravo.
