ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Why India will face Australia on June 24 in Super 8 clash - Explained

India, Australia, South Africa and West Indies have qualified for the Super 8 round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

While the group round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is still going on, it has been confirmed that India will take on Australia on June 24 in their Super 8 round match. This is because of the pre-tournament seeding that the ICC had already planned.

So far, four teams have qualified for the Super 8 round: India, Australia, South Africa and West Indies. India and Australia have been placed in Group 1 of the Super Eight stage while South Africa and West Indies are in Group 2. Four more teams will join them. The top two teams from each Super 8 group will proceed to the semi-finals.

All these four qualified teams won three out of their first three matches in the group stage and have one more game left to play. But their contests against each other in the Super Eight stage have been confirmed already.

Why India vs Australia in the Super Eight round is already confirmed?

It’s because the ICC had already decided the Super Eight seedings of all teams. For example, regardless of whether India finish in the first or second position in Group A, they have been assigned A1. Australia have been assigned B2 already, even if they finish at the top of their group.

The A1 team is grouped with B2 in the Super Eight. This is something that had been pre-determined before the tournament.

When will India vs Australia take place in Super 8 round at the T20 World Cup 2024?

India and Australia will play their Super 8 match against each other on June 24 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. The timing of the match is 10:30 AM LOCAL / 8:00 PM IST / 02:30 PM GMT.
